Angang Chaumba
A child born to any family is a matter of great joy. The family selects an auspicious day for the baby to eat rice for the first time in life. It is purely family occasion. Close friends and relatives are invited. A brahmin ( Hindu priest ) conducts rituals. Sangom Kheer, a mixture of rice, milk and sugar cooked together, is served to the idol of God family worships. Then the baby child is allowed to eat this prasadam. In Manipuri, this ritual is called Angang Chaumba. Here is some glimpses of such an occasion in a Manipuri family in Tripura.
